Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, expressed her sadness over the death of Diamond Robinson, a man who worked as her security guard, during a police standoff in Dallas. Crockett referred to the incident as a “tragic ending” and highlighted concerning lapses in the vetting process that allowed Robinson to secure the position, despite having “multiple felony warrants,” including one for impersonating a police officer.
Robinson barricaded himself in his car at a hospital parking lot and was fatally shot by police after he brandished a weapon. Crockett emphasized that Robinson, known as Mike King while working for her, had always shown professionalism and dedication, contradicting his criminal past. She called for improvements in the Capitol’s hiring systems to enhance security for congressional members, especially as threats have significantly increased over recent years.
Capitol Police did not comment on the incident, and investigations into Robinson’s criminal history revealed limited offenses. Crockett’s team had previously considered him trustworthy, and she mourned his loss while advocating for second chances in the criminal justice system.
