As of December 30, 2025, flight attendants must provide medical documentation for all sick calls, which the airline states is necessary to ensure operational reliability and address alleged misuse of sick leave.
An internal email highlighted that the frequency of sick calls had become problematic, affecting flight schedules and overall trust in operations. Failure to provide medical documentation may lead to unexcused absences and disciplinary actions.
The Association of Flight Attendants (AFA-CWA) acknowledged the legality of the policy under current contracts but criticized the airline’s approach. The union encouraged members to prioritize their health, emphasizing that sick personnel could endanger crew and passengers.
This policy reflects broader industry trends, as similar measures were taken by United Airlines, which faced backlash and legal challenges for its own sick leave requirements aimed at reducing absenteeism. Currently, the CDC reports a significant rise in flu cases, which adds urgency to Frontier’s new policies.
