Two passengers, Katherine Shockley and William Maycock, are suing Carnival Cruise Line after experiencing over 30 bed bug bites during their trip on the Horizon in February 2025. They claim to have noticed itching on their arms and legs just a day into the cruise, and upon further inspection, they found live bed bugs, feces, and eggs in their cabin.
Despite reporting the issue to guest services, they allege that no action was taken. The couple experienced significant physical and emotional distress, including painful welts and sleep deprivation, and are claiming negligence on the part of the cruise line for failing to conduct proper inspections.
The Horizon had recently passed a CDC inspection, scoring 93 out of 100, but the CDC states that cleanliness does not guarantee the absence of bed bugs, which can be found in any type of accommodation. Carnival has yet to respond to these allegations.
