A powerful nor’easter is impacting New Jersey with heavy rain and strong winds, posing a significant risk of major coastal flooding, particularly along the Jersey Shore on Sunday and Monday. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for all 21 counties, and a state of emergency took effect Saturday evening. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph, with potential inland gusts of 30 to 40 mph, leading to possible power outages.
Coastal areas are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of rain, with storm surges threatening flooding during high tides on Sunday and Monday. Notably, high tides could reach 8.1 feet along Atlantic City’s coast. Beach erosion and dune destruction are anticipated.
Residents are urged to prepare for flooding, power outages, and secure outdoor belongings. Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Tuesday as the storm weakens, with drier and cooler weather following mid-week.
