Joe Logan, a podcaster and former UFC commentator, recently claimed that the planet is cooling, contradicting decades of evidence supporting global warming. In episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience, Logan referred to a temperature graph from a 2024 study, asserting that global temperatures are declining. However, climate experts have criticized his interpretation. Jessica Tierney, a paleoclimatologist at the University of Arizona, stated that Logan’s take is a misunderstanding of the data, emphasizing that current temperatures are rising sharply due to human activities like fossil fuel combustion.
Experts point out that since 1850, the Earth’s average surface temperature has increased by about 0.11 degrees Celsius every decade, a rate unprecedented in geological history. The current warming is occurring 30 times faster than it did before the largest mass extinction event, highlighting the urgency of addressing climate change. Climate science and policy expert Lauriams remarked on the dangerous misinformation propagated by Logan, noting the significant impact it can have on public understanding of climate issues.
