United Airlines is working to resume flights to Greenland, specifically to Nuuk International Airport, after operations were temporarily suspended due to security training issues. The airline had to turn back a flight en route to Nuuk and subsequently canceled another. By Wednesday afternoon, it was reported that international flights would resume, with additional security measures in place. United plans to resume its regular Saturday flights to Nuuk, which it had just started this summer, marking the first regular US-Greenland service in years.
Passengers have been advised that they can rebook through Iceland or request refunds as per the US Department of Transportation policy. Despite the current disruptions, the airline is assisting travelers in rebooking on a case-by-case basis. There are limited options for returning to the US, and United aims to establish a twice-weekly service to Nuuk. Greenland’s infrastructure is still adapting to increased tourism, signaling both challenges and potential for growth in the region.
