Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has emphasized the potential of glasses as the primary mode of interacting with AI in the future. During a recent earnings call, he stated that individuals without AI-equipped glasses may find themselves at a significant disadvantage. He envisions glasses as the optimal device for AI interaction, as they integrate seamlessly with daily activities, allowing users to see and hear their surroundings while also accessing digital information.
Meta has introduced smart glasses, like the Ray-Ban Meta, which enable users to listen to music, capture photos and videos, and interact with Meta’s AI. The popularity of these products has been notable, with revenue from Ray-Ban sales reportedly tripling compared to the previous year.
Zuckerberg highlighted the ongoing efforts of Meta’s Reality Labs, which has incurred substantial operating losses. In the second quarter alone, the division lost $4.53 billion, contributing to total losses nearing $70 billion since 2020. Despite the financial struggles, Meta is betting on the importance of AI and its integration into consumer technology.
While Zuckerberg advocates for glasses as the future of AI interaction, other companies are exploring various alternatives, such as AI pins and pendants. Nonetheless, he remains convinced that glasses offer the best solution for blending physical and digital experiences, reinforcing the vision of the metaverse and the role of AI in its development.
