Activist Greta Samberg was deported from Israel after her Gaza-bound ship, carrying aid, was confiscated by Israeli forces. She was one of 12 passengers on board, aiming to protest Israel’s ongoing conflict and highlight the humanitarian crisis in Palestinian territories. The Israeli Navy intercepted the ship about 125 miles from Gaza, claiming it was enforcing a legal naval blockade, while human rights groups contended the action violated international law.
Samberg agreed to leave Israel, following the deportation of two other activists, while eight more are in custody awaiting legal proceedings. Supporters claim Israel lacks the authority to seize the ship in international waters. Other activists, including Lima Hassan, a French member of the Palestinian European Parliament, faced deportation for opposing Israeli policies. Amnesty International has condemned Israel’s actions as violations of international law and called for the immediate release of the activists. Israeli officials dismissed the humanitarian mission as a propaganda effort, labeling the ship a “selfie yacht.”
