Mackinac Island, Michigan, is currently enjoying its 2025 cruise ship season, having welcomed three ships so far. The Viking Otuncis was the first to arrive on April 27th. Over the season, 80 cruise ships from six major lines, including Viking and Pearl Seas, will visit the island, with days featuring up to four ships. However, the schedule remains subject to change due to weather conditions.
Notably, the season is expected to have a substantial economic impact on the Great Lakes region, projected at $230 million, a 15% increase from the previous year. In 2023, nearly 100 ships visited, but those numbers dropped in 2024 due to the bankruptcy of certain lines. This year, the revived Victory Cruise Line has brought back two ships that once accounted for a significant portion of visits.
The cruising season in Michigan will run through October, with an anticipated total of 700 port visits across various ports including Detroit and Alpena, reflecting a 30% increase in activity.
