Chesney, a 16-month-old kangaroo, escaped from Sunshine Farm in Necedah, Wisconsin, after being startled by stray dogs. Over three days, zookeeper Debbie Marland and volunteers, including drone operator Colton Johnson, searched for Chesney using heat-sensing technology. Despite several near-captures, Chesney evaded them until he was found under a tree, calmed by familiar voices and scents.
The community rallied to support the search, leading to tales of Chesney’s adventures inspiring a children’s book. He was eventually reunited with his roommate, Kenny, and is now healthy after the ordeal. To prevent future escapes, a new mesh top will be added to the enclosure.
