Eight Muslim-majority countries, including Saudi Arabia and Egypt, condemned Israel’s new law mandating the death penalty for West Bank Palestinians convicted of terrorist attacks. In a joint statement, they argued that the law reinforces an apartheid regime and escalates existing tensions in the region. The law, passed by Israeli parliament, exempts Israeli citizens from the death penalty, targeting only Palestinians, and has faced criticism from the UN and EU, although the U.S. supports Israel’s legislative sovereignty. While proponents claim the law may deter terrorism, security experts warn it could incite violence. Several Israeli opposition parties and human rights groups plan to challenge the law in court.
