A Delta Air Lines pilot mistakenly contacted the wrong control tower while attempting to land in New York City on March 15. Delta Flight 5752, coming from Washington, D.C., inadvertently radioed the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Tower instead of LaGuardia Airport, which was about 10 miles away. The communication mix-up was captured in recently released flight audio, where confusion ensued among air traffic controllers.
Upon realizing the mistake, the JFK controller instructed the pilots to switch to the correct LaGuardia frequency. The flight was directed to perform a go-around before successfully landing about 25 minutes late. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the incident and is conducting an investigation, citing no other aircraft were involved. Delta acknowledged the situation, stating that the flight operated by Republic Airways was managed by separate crew members.
