Filming wrapped recently in New Orleans for Tom McCarthy’s untitled movie, featuring an ensemble cast including Paul Rudd, Evan Peters, and Paul Giamatti. The film, which tackles climate change, is based on Nathaniel Rich’s nonfiction work Losing Earth. It explores a pivotal 1980 meeting of scientists and policymakers in Florida, where the impacts of climate change were discussed amid industry concerns.
Michael Cerveris, a New Orleans-based actor, plays Edward Straubehn, an environmental lawyer. He expressed his awareness of Rich’s book and highlighted its humanizing approach to complex climate issues. The film incorporates actual dialogue from that meeting, reflecting the challenges of achieving consensus among diverse experts.
Filming briefly occurred in New York before moving to New Orleans and is set to continue in St. Petersburg, Florida. Cerveris noted that, while the film emphasizes the need for action on climate change, it also showcases the failed momentum of the 1980s due to skepticism and resistance surrounding regulatory measures.
