Dayton Weber, a 27-year-old professional cornhole player and amputee, has been arrested for allegedly killing Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, during an argument in La Plata, Maryland. Witnesses in Weber’s car reported that he shot Wells and then attempted to get them to help move the victim, who they refused, leading Weber to flee the scene with Wells in his vehicle. Hours later, Wells was found dead in a yard in nearby Charlotte Hall.
Law enforcement tracked down Weber’s car over 100 miles away in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was arrested at a local hospital. He faces charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and other related offenses and is awaiting extradition to Maryland.
Weber’s past is notable; after surviving a life-threatening infection in childhood that resulted in the amputation of his arms and legs, he excelled in various sports like football and wrestling. He gained recognition in cornhole, being named Maryland’s Cornhole Player of the Year in 2020 and becoming the first amputee in the American Cornhole League’s history in the 2021-2022 season. The league expressed its concern regarding the situation but refrained from commenting further due to ongoing litigation.
