The trade that would have sent star defensive end Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens has been scrapped after Crosby failed a physical examination. The agreement, made last Friday, involved the Ravens sending two first-round picks for Crosby, but league rules require all trades to be finalized only after passing physicals. The Ravens withdrew from the agreement after examining Crosby’s knee, where he is recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
Crosby’s surgeon reported that he is ahead in his rehabilitation, but the long-term health of the knee raised concerns for the Ravens. Following the failed trade, both the Raiders and Ravens declined to comment further. Crosby, a five-time Pro Bowler, has expressed a desire to remain with the Raiders, but his relationship with the team soured after they placed him on injured reserve last December.
The Ravens had outbid other teams like the Cowboys and Jaguars for Crosby, making this trade significant for both teams. With this fallout, the Ravens retain their two first-round picks and face challenges in improving their defense as many unrestricted free agents have already signed elsewhere. Crosby, who has had a notable career with the Raiders, has four years and $115.8 million remaining on his current contract.
