Dennis Faulkner grew up in Cooley, Moville, with a strong agricultural background, helping his family farm beef cattle, potatoes, and poultry. His father, Neil, was a pioneer in egg exporting, facilitating local poultry farming. Emphasizing education, Dennis completed his Leaving Certificate and pursued an agriculture degree at University College Dublin. He began his career with the Kelly Group, assisting farmers in modern dairy practices in Ireland and later working in Saudi Arabia’s vastly different agricultural environment.
In 1997, he founded Greentrack, focusing on supporting Irish farmers in compliance and sustainability while expanding into environmental consultancy. His company addresses various ecological challenges, offering services like environmental impact assessments and habitat surveys.
Dennis highlights issues in County Donegal, including pollution and biodiversity loss, advocating for clearer guidance and support for farmers. He praises Donegal County Council’s initiatives for biodiversity, such as the draft biodiversity plan for 2026-2030, which encourages public input and sustainable practices.
Believing that education is crucial for long-term progress, Dennis envisions integrating environmental awareness into school curricula. His goal is a harmonious coexistence of development, agriculture, tourism, and nature in Donegal, achievable with the right support and commitment.
