Rivian has launched its third-generation in-house autonomous hardware platform, featuring the Rivian Autonomy Processor (RAP1), developed in collaboration with Arm. This custom chip, based on Arm’s latest Armv9 architecture, is designed to enhance self-driving capabilities by enabling vehicles to understand their surroundings, make rapid decisions, and navigate complex environments safely.
During the Autonomy and AI Day, Rivian emphasized that the RAP1 supports a range of critical functions, including environmental interpretation and real-time decision-making for safe operation. The integration of low-power, high-performance Arm processors ensures that these autonomous systems are efficient, maintaining vehicle range while enhancing intelligence.
