Speaking from personal experience, he highlighted how early detection has positively impacted his own health after being diagnosed with cancer over a year ago.
The king expressed concern that over nine million people in the UK lack access to current cancer screening, leading to missed opportunities for early diagnosis. He noted that early detection significantly improves survival rates, particularly for colorectal cancer, where survival at five years can drop significantly if diagnosis is delayed.
Rejecting the notion that he has bowel cancer, Buckingham Palace has not disclosed the type of cancer he is undergoing treatment for, though it was identified following prostate treatment. His decision to share his diagnosis aims to raise public awareness about cancer, and following his announcement, Cancer Research UK noted a 33% increase in website visits as people sought information on cancer signs.
After a temporary suspension from public duties for treatment, Charles returned to public life in April, meeting with cancer patients and sharing his experience.
