The parents of Ran Gviri, a 24-year-old Israeli police officer who died in Gaza, have expressed their anguish and urgent plea for his body to be returned. They believe that progress in the Gaza peace deal hinges on Hamas returning Ran’s remains. The couple shared their emotional struggle and hope for closure, mentioning that they still cling to a small chance he might be alive despite being informed of his death.
Ran, who was on medical leave when the October 7 attack occurred, chose to fight and was killed during a confrontation with Hamas. His mother, Tariq, described their 26-month ordeal fighting for the return of all hostages. Under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, Hamas has agreed to release living hostages and the bodies of deceased ones, but the process has been slow and uncertain.
They feel supported by the Israeli public and expressed hope for lasting peace, while Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu referred to Ran as a hero for his bravery. The family is determined to ensure Ran receives a proper burial in Israel.
