This situation has prompted Washington state Governor Bob Ferguson to declare an emergency as Thanksgiving travel approaches. Although the airport has fuel reserves allowing most flights to operate smoothly for now, some airlines like EVA Air and Starlux Airlines have started rerouting to alternative refueling points due to the impending shortage.
Major airlines, including Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines, are preparing for potential disruptions by implementing fuel management strategies and increasing trucking operations for fuel supplies. Delta has advised passengers to check flight statuses as the situation evolves.
With the pipeline issues persisting, there is concern that widespread impacts on flight operations may soon follow, particularly for long-haul flights that cannot easily refuel upon arrival.
