A new study by the Humanitarian Institute of Yale Public Health reveals that Russia operates over 200 camps for reeducating and militarizing Ukrainian children. These facilities, located in Russia and occupied Ukraine, include military bases, schools, and universities, exposing children to programs of patriotic indoctrination and combat training since the 2022 invasion. The report, titled “Stolen Children in Ukraine,” identifies at least 130 camps focused on reeducation and 39 engaged in military training, where children as young as eight undergo weapon training and tactical medicine.
The findings highlight an unprecedented network aimed at transforming Ukrainian children into Russians, with significant expansion plans evident in satellite imagery. The report underscores the systematic deportation and militarization of children as violations of the Geneva Convention and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Following earlier reports of forced recruitment from occupied Ukrainian regions, the study lends credence to allegations of war crimes, with the International Criminal Court investigating President Putin for these accusations. Ukrainian officials assert that the report provides undeniable evidence against Russian denials of child deportation, calling for international action.
