Rebecca Dallas has filed a lawsuit against Roblox and Discord following the tragic suicide of her 15-year-old son, Ethan Dallas. The complaint alleges that Ethan, who had been groomed by an adult predator on Roblox, was coerced into sharing explicit images and ultimately took his life in April 2024.
Ethan began using Roblox at age nine with parental controls in place. However, at 12, he was targeted by a predator who posed as a child, leading to increasingly explicit conversations and demands for photos. The lawsuit claims that both platforms failed to implement adequate safety measures, allowing children like Ethan to disable parental controls and interact with adults unsupervised.
Roblox defended itself, stating it has stringent safety features and works with law enforcement to combat child exploitation. Meanwhile, Discord emphasized its commitment to user safety and age restrictions, asserting that users must be at least 13 years old.
Dallas’s lawsuit highlights a growing concern over the safety of online platforms, suggesting they inadequately protect children from predators. This case marks the ninth legal action involving allegations of child grooming related to Roblox or related services. Dallas seeks a jury trial and damages for her son’s experience and subsequent death.
