Volkswagen (VW) is responding to the need for more affordable electric vehicles (EVs) with a new lineup targeting entry-level options. The recent concept, ID. Cross, builds on the brand’s MEB Plus platform, promising improved batteries and technology. This model features a friendly design with a front fascia that appears welcoming, and it matches the size of the popular VW T-Cross. The ID. Cross offers a powerful 208 horsepower motor, a range of up to 260 miles, and ample storage including a front trunk.
Significantly, the interior includes physical buttons for ease of use, addressing previous criticisms of VW’s minimalistic approach. The production version is set for release in summer 2024, alongside the ID. Polo and ID. Polo GTI. VW aims to increase its competitiveness, especially against Chinese brands, as it has lagged in the EV market compared to rivals like BMW and Hyundai. Despite challenges, European sales remain a strong point for the brand.
