A recent investigation by the London Sunday Times reveals a troubling workplace culture among King Charles III’s gardening staff at High Grove House. The report notes that of the 12 full-time gardeners, 11 have resigned in the past year, including two head gardeners, highlighting a toxic environment.
Former employees described King Charles as “strongly demanding,” with allegations of micro-management and intimidation, leading to low morale. Complaints included excessive demands and poor working conditions, magnified by low wages, which reportedly only meet the minimum.
The King’s Foundation, which manages High Grove, conducted an external investigation that confirmed the poor work environment, prompting recommendations for mental health support and counseling for staff. Despite claims of satisfaction based on employee surveys, the foundation has not addressed key issues such as micromanagement.
The report draws parallels to previous criticisms faced by the royal family regarding staff treatment, particularly from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and raises concerns about the monarchy’s modern image.
