Max Verstappen will start second in the Canadian Grand Prix after being edged out by George Russell in qualifying. Despite this, Red Bull’s Helmut Marko believes that Mercedes’ tire wear is “significantly worse” than Red Bull’s, giving Verstappen an advantage in the race.
Verstappen’s recent performance has been marred by a 10-second penalty received for an incident in the Spanish Grand Prix, leaving him one point away from a potential racing ban. Nonetheless, he aims to focus on the race and the podium despite the drama surrounding his recent penalties.
Marko noted that tire management will be crucial, and he expressed confidence that Verstappen can leverage this advantage over Russell. Both drivers qualified on medium tires, while third-place Oscar Piastri used soft tires. Verstappen remains committed to maximizing his performance in the championship, currently trailing Piastri by 49 points.
