The August Egg Company has recalled 1.7 million dozen eggs due to potential salmonella contamination, affecting multiple brands like Clover and First Street. As of Friday, 79 salmonella outbreaks linked to California egg producers were reported, resulting in 21 hospitalizations. The CDC advises consumers to discard or return recalled eggs, which were sold in multiple states and retailers from March to June 2025. Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea and fever, and while most recover within a week, the infection can be serious for vulnerable populations. The FDA identifies potentially contaminated eggs by the plant code numbers P-6562 or CA5330 on the packaging. Investigations are ongoing, particularly following a cluster of illnesses associated with a restaurant in San Diego.
