On Wednesday, xAI publicly released a 45-minute video of their all-hands meeting, following earlier reporting by the New York Times. The meeting highlighted significant updates on Musk’s AI Lab initiatives, including the company’s product roadmap and its relationship with the X Platform.
A key takeaway was the announcement of employee layoffs due to organizational restructuring, which Musk noted was necessary for growth. This has led to the departure of many founding team members, causing disruption within the company.
The new structure divides xAI into four teams focusing on various projects, including the Grok chatbot, app coding, the Imagine video generator, and Macrohard projects, with ambitions for advanced capabilities including AI-designed rocket engines.
Executives revealed that X’s annual recurring revenue from subscriptions has surpassed $1 billion, thanks to successful marketing efforts. Additionally, xAI’s Imagine tool reportedly generates 50 million videos daily and over 6 billion images monthly, although the numbers are complicated by the prevalence of deepfake content on the platform.
Musk concluded the meeting by emphasizing the potential of space-based data centers, suggesting a future lunar AI satellite factory could harness solar energy and help develop advanced AI systems.
