Kelsey Fitzsimmons, a former North Andover police officer, was acquitted of pointing a gun at a fellow officer during a June 2025 incident. The decision was made by Essex Superior Court Judge Jeffrey T. Karp after nearly four hours of deliberation. Fitzsimmons faced charges stemming from a confrontation while police served a restraining order filed by her ex-fiancé, who claimed he feared for his safety and their newborn child.
During the trial, Fitzsimmons’ defense argued she was suffering from postpartum depression and that she intended to harm herself, not the officers. Fitzsimmons testified that she pointed the gun at her chest and did not aim it at anyone else. The situation escalated when Officer Patrick Noonan shot her during the encounter.
After the verdict was announced, courtroom activity included comments from Fitzsimmons and her legal team. If convicted, she could have faced up to 12 years in prison. The trial took place without a jury as Fitzsimmons waived that right.
