A man, Alexander Heifler, has been arrested for allegedly planning to bomb the home of Nerdeen Kiswani, a prominent Palestinian activist, following a week-long undercover operation by New York City police. Kiswani, who leads protests against Israel and the Gaza conflict through her organization Within Our Lifetime, was informed by law enforcement officials that they had thwarted a threat to her life.
Heifler, 26, was identified as a member of the JDL 613 Brotherhood, a New Jersey-based group that draws inspiration from the controversial Jewish Defense League. He had been discussing the plot with an undercover NYPD agent in a group chat. On Thursday, he was arrested at his home in Hoboken, where he was making Molotov cocktails intended for Kiswani’s residence.
Kiswani expressed gratitude for the intervention but noted the continued risks for those advocating for Palestine. Heifler faces charges of manufacturing and possessing a destructive device, each carrying a potential 10-year prison sentence. New York Mayor commented on the importance of preventing violent extremism and ensuring safety regardless of political beliefs. The operation was conducted by the NYPD’s Counterterrorism Division, emphasizing the effectiveness of their intelligence in stopping potential violence.
