A man and his sister have been indicted on federal charges after leaving explosives outside MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Allen Jen, 20, and Ann Mary Jen, 27, face serious charges, with Allen potentially facing 40 years for attempting to damage government property and illegally possessing explosives. Ann could face 30 years for witness tampering and being an accessory after selling the car used in the delivery of the explosives.
The device, discovered on March 16, did not explode, but authorities indicated it could have been deadly. Investigators connected Allen to the incident using phone data, after he called 911 to report a bomb and then promptly fled to China with his sister. They sold their vehicle before their departure, and although cleaned, the SUV had traces of explosive residue. The FBI is continuing to investigate, including testing the device at their lab.
Federal authorities have not found evidence linking Allen to any foreign government but are exploring all avenues to bring him back to the U.S. Meanwhile, their mother is being held pending deportation for overstaying her visa.
