Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, archdeacon of St. Peter’s Basilica, announced several initiatives to mark the cathedral’s 400th anniversary. These include the launch of a new multilingual liturgical platform for pilgrims, which will provide real-time AI-assisted translations via smartphone QR codes. This platform was developed in collaboration with a leading AI translation company.
Additionally, areas of the basilica previously off-limits will be opened to the public, including a terrace and an octagonal hall displaying significant models and archival works. A new visitor reservation system called SmartPass will help manage visitor flow.
To enhance spiritual engagement, Cardinal Gambetti introduced a series of weekly prayers, sacred music, and scriptural lectures focused on St. Peter. A special pilgrimage route will be established, along with a theatrical performance on June 29 to honor Saints Peter and Paul.
Moreover, the Vatican is introducing a new institutional font, Michelangelus, inspired by Michelangelo’s handwriting, which will be included in Microsoft Office packages. Lastly, the cardinal emphasized that advanced technology will enable ongoing renovations of the basilica while preserving its integrity, ensuring it continues to welcome future generations of pilgrims.
