Evo, a Seattle-based outdoor gear retailer, is interested in acquiring Denver’s historic Sports Castle, a landmark that has stood since 1926. CEO Bryce Phillips highlighted the building’s iconic status and potential for revitalization, sharing a personal connection as his family is local. Originally built as a Chrysler showroom, it became the “Sportsman’s Castle” in 1971 and has since been vacant, aside from occasional event use.
In 2021, the building was purchased for $4.5 million, and plans for its redevelopment were submitted in December 2025. Evo envisions transforming Sports Castle into a retail hub with complementary businesses and a food venue while preserving its architectural heritage. Renovation proposals include restoring historical features, updating interiors, and adding a rooftop amenity.
While there is enthusiasm for the project’s community impact, Phillips noted the complexities involved in renovating a historic site. Evo operates a nearby store and aims to create a collaborative space for outdoor enthusiasts. The timeline for renovations remains uncertain, but the aim is to honor the building’s legacy while modernizing it for future use.
