Luka Doncic, the NBA’s leading scorer, will undergo an MRI after leaving the Lakers’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a left foot injury. He experienced hamstring pain and limped back to the locker room before the halftime break, and ultimately did not return for the second half. Lakers coach JJ Redick mentioned that Doncic did not feel fit to play and that the medical staff deemed it necessary for him to sit out. Doncic, averaging 33.4 points per game this season, had a challenging first half with 10 points, four rebounds, and five turnovers.
Despite Doncic’s exit, the Lakers rallied to secure a 119-115 win, led by Austin Reeves, who scored 35 points in his second game back after a calf injury. Reeves expressed concern for Doncic, emphasizing his importance to the team. With Doncic’s injury adding to the Lakers’ struggles with player health, they have played together with their star trio of Doncic, Reeves, and LeBron James only 10 times this season. The Lakers, currently 31-19, are in playoff contention but may face challenges without their key players fully healthy.
Doncic was named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Month for January and is set to appear in his sixth All-Star Game.
