The FBI has arrested Zubayar al-Bakush, a key participant in the 2012 Benghazi attack that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the arrest, emphasizing that fugitives cannot escape justice. Al-Bakush was transferred to the U.S. and faces seven charges, including murder and support for terrorists, as detailed in a 13-page indictment.
On September 11, 2012, militants from the Ansar al-Sharia group attacked the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, leading to the deaths of Stevens and Sean Smith, followed by a mortar attack that killed CIA contractors Tyrone Woods and Glenn Doherty. Bondi noted that the State Department and CIA collaborated with the FBI on the arrest, which took place overseas.
Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that investigations will continue to find other perpetrators, with Pirro reinforcing commitment to pursuing them, regardless of time. Two others have been previously charged for their involvement, including alleged mastermind Ahmed Abu Khatalla, who faced multiple charges and was sentenced to a total of 28 years in prison over the years.
