Ca’ Dario, a historic palace on Venice’s Grand Canal, dating back to the late 15th century, has a rich history tied to notable figures like diplomat Giovanni Dario and artists like Claude Monet. However, its sale has been complicated by a reputation for being “haunted,” due to a series of tragic events, including violent deaths of past owners and guests.
The property, boasting nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and ornate features, is currently listed at €20 million but has faced challenges in attracting buyers, with many deterred by its ominous history. Among the notable tragedies is the murder of Count Filippo Giordano delle Lanze in1970, and the misfortunes of subsequent owners, including music industry figure Kit Lambert.
Though it has been vacant since 2006, interest is reportedly increasing, with a mix of locals and foreigners showing curiosity. Venice’s general manager at Christie’s emphasizes its historical significance, suggesting that the right buyer could restore the palace’s legacy while highlighting that Venetians enjoy embellishing local legends. Despite its haunted reputation, the allure of Ca’ Dario remains, as it represents a living piece of history in a quieter area of the city.
