The Tennessee Titans are finalizing an agreement to hire Robert Saleh, the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator, as their next head coach. Saleh, 46, previously coached the New York Jets from 2021 to 2024, finishing with a 20-36 record and no playoff appearances. He spent the latter part of the 2024 season as an offensive consultant for the Green Bay Packers before returning to the 49ers.
The Titans had conducted extensive interviews for their head coaching position and moved Saleh’s meeting from virtual to in-person. Saleh will replace Brian Callahan, who was fired after a disappointing season. The Titans aim to rebuild their team, having not made the playoffs since 2021 and seeking to improve their defense, which performed well in 2025 but lost key players.
Saleh, now the 20th head coach in Titans history, faces challenges in revitalizing the franchise after a difficult period and capitalizing on the potential of young quarterback Cam Ward. The Titans have over $100 million in cap space and the No. 4 draft pick heading into the offseason.
