JR Central (JR Tokai) is reintroducing private booths to the Shinkansen trains along the Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka route after more than 20 years. Initially planned for spring 2027, the rollout has been expedited to October 1, 2023.
The new N7000S series features luxurious cabins with larger seats, wrap-around armrests, deeper recline, adjustable lighting, temperature controls, and dedicated Wi-Fi. This marks the first such offering since the 100 series trains were retired in 2003.
While ticket prices for the private booths haven’t been announced, they are expected to be more expensive than first-class “green car” tickets. Currently, only a limited number of Shinkansen cars will have these booths, but JR Tokai plans to expand the feature further.
