Eurostar services have resumed after a power outage at the Channel Tunnel caused cancellations of all trains between London and Paris, Amsterdam, and Brussels. Although operations restarted, Eurostar warned passengers to expect significant delays and potential last-minute cancellations, advising them to postpone their journeys.
The disruption began due to overhead power issues and a faulty LeShuttle train, leading to chaos as many sought alternative routes. By midday Tuesday, numerous Eurostar trains had been canceled. The operator has offered passengers free changes or cancellations for refunds or vouchers.
Stranded travelers, including two American tourists who spent over $500 on last-minute flights to Paris, shared their frustration. The affected individuals included a Mexican family hoping to celebrate New Year’s in Paris, while others dealt with long waits at the Eurostar station.
LeShuttle services also resumed but faced significant delays. The UK Department for Transport warned that travel disruptions could continue throughout the day as repairs were underway. As of the evening, only a few Eurostar trains were scheduled to depart, and traffic congestion around the Channel Tunnel terminal improved as more vehicles were cleared.
