The Chicago area is set to face severe cold and snow this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather advisory for multiple counties from Saturday evening to Sunday noon, with a warning for nearby Waukesha County, Wisconsin. An AccuWeather Alert is in place, and snow accumulation is expected, particularly south of I-80.
Crowds at Aurora’s Christkindle Market enjoyed hot drinks, but the city’s warming center will open to provide shelter as temperatures drop to single digits with wind chills between -10 and -20 degrees. Mayor John Roesch emphasizes the importance of these centers to prevent hypothermia.
As the Arctic front moves in, scattered snow and chilling winds are anticipated. Highs on Saturday will only reach the low teens, and by Saturday night, temperatures are predicted to plunge below freezing with extreme wind chills of -25 to -30 degrees. Sunday morning may be the coldest, especially for fans attending a Bears game. A brief warming trend is expected next week, potentially bringing temperatures into the 40s.
