Historically, this region is susceptible to significant quakes, reminiscent of the devastating 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that claimed over 18,000 lives. In a worst-case scenario, another major quake could lead to catastrophic outcomes, including a tsunami reaching up to 98 feet.
While the advisory aims to foster caution rather than panic, officials stress the importance of being prepared for potential earthquakes. Residents are encouraged to secure evacuation routes and resources, while remaining vigilant amid ongoing aftershocks.
