In a thrilling comeback, BYU rallied from a 22-point deficit to defeat Clemson 67-64 in the first game of the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. AJ Divanza was pivotal, scoring 22 of his 28 points in the second half, along with nine rebounds and six assists. Robert Wright III sealed the victory with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, finishing with 17 points, while Keba Keita contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Tigers led by as much as 22 points after halftime, with Jestyn Porter scoring 17 for Clemson. Divanza dominated the second half, increasing momentum for BYU with key assists and baskets. The game marked the largest second-half comeback in BYU history. Coach Kevin Young noted the importance of his players’ stamina, having rested them during game stoppages.
BYU will next face UC Riverside at home on Saturday.
