The future of The Game Awards’ Future Class program is uncertain, as organizers confirmed no new class will be introduced in 2025, and there are no ongoing programs for past winners. This information was shared with alumni via a Discord server set up for networking and mentorship. Previous winners expressed feelings of neglect, noting a lack of communication from program leaders, Emily Weir and Jeff Keighley, and felt disrespected by the responses—or lack thereof—they received regarding the program’s future. Alumni voiced concerns about the program being superficial, fearing they were being used for the organization’s image rather than legitimate support. The Game Awards faced internal pressure from Future Class members, who called for better support and accommodations after their nominations. While there seemed to be some receptivity to feedback in 2023-2024, the lack of continuity or new initiatives has left members feeling sidelined and ignored. The Game Developer has reached out for more information from The Game Awards.
