Three people were arrested for murder, and a fourth for attempted murder, following a shooting that killed six and injured over a dozen in Leland, Mississippi. Tevyon L. Powell, William Bryant, and Morgan Lattimore face murder charges, while LaToya A. Powell is charged with attempted murder. The FBI reported that the shooting, which took place during Homecoming weekend festivities after a high school football game, stemmed from a dispute among attendees. Four victims died at the scene, leaving behind a chaotic scene with shoes and blood on the streets.
This incident was one of several mass shootings in the state that weekend, contributing to a growing concern about gun violence in the U.S., as mass murders are on the rise. Meanwhile, another shooting occurred in Heidelberg, resulting in two deaths, including that of a pregnant woman, and an 18-year-old suspect was arrested. Additional shootings were reported at Alcorn State University and during a Jackson State University event, but no arrests were made in those cases. The investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are pending.
