In Tulum, over a dozen hotels and beach clubs have agreed to provide public beach access without fees or minimum consumption requirements, part of an initiative led by Mayor Diego Castañón. A total of 15 establishments, including 13 hotels and three beach clubs, will allow access to their beach areas during designated hours, except when hosting private events.
Castañón highlighted the collaborative effort with local entrepreneurs, emphasizing the importance of this agreement for both residents and visitors. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to legislate free public access, supported by Representative Ricardo Monreal, which aims to exempt charges at national conservation areas over the upcoming weeks.
Despite the progress, Jaguar Park, which is nearby, continues to charge entry fees, leading to concerns about the impact on tourism, particularly as some vendors report a decline in visitors compared to previous years. Additionally, a new public beach access point has been established, located 1 km from Jaguar Park, and is set to open shortly.
