Prosecutors in Utah have escalated charges against 22-year-old suspect Robinson, seeking the death penalty for the murder of prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot during an event at Utah Valley University. Evidence against Robinson includes DNA, confession texts detailing his motivations, and accounts from his roommate.
Robinson allegedly targeted Kirk due to the latter’s political views, stating he had “enough of his hatred.” His charging documents reveal a shift towards leftist beliefs and a growing aversion to what he viewed as Kirk’s hate speech. Additional charges include obstruction of justice for hiding the murder weapon and tampering with witnesses.
Robinson’s texts to his roommate indicated premeditated plans to kill Kirk, alongside messages suggesting a political motivation, such as anti-fascist engravings on bullet casings. Following the shooting, Robinson fled and later surrendered to authorities, prompting further investigation into his political motives and mental state. His family reported that he had become increasingly engaged in political discourse leading up to the incident.
