A judge granted a temporary injunction on August 29, preventing SEPTA from implementing further service cuts or fare increases after Labor Day. Although a fare hike of 21.5% was scheduled to take effect on September 1 and 20% service reductions for regional rail were set for September 2, these changes are now on hold.
Attorney George Bochet, representing concerned citizens, hailed the ruling as a victory. SEPTA’s General Manager, Scott Sauer, acknowledged the challenges of maintaining current services but committed to following the court’s orders. Although fare prices will remain at current levels, passengers are advised to use the June 15 schedule for real-time updates, as changes may take time to reflect in various platforms.
The case remains ongoing, and SEPTA plans to provide more testimony in court on Thursday, while Bochet expressed a desire to restore previously cut services.
