In a tragic event in Minneapolis, a shooter named Robin Westman, 23, opened fire on a church filled with worshippers during Mass, killing two children, ages 8 and 10, and injuring 17 others, including three adults. The attack coincided with the first week of classes at a nearby Catholic school.
Westman fired through a window using a rifle, shotgun, and pistol before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated that the motive remains unclear, while FBI Director Kash Patel indicated the investigation will explore potential domestic terrorism and hate crime angles targeting Catholics.
Authorities recovered more firearms linked to Westman at three homes. Witnesses described heroic actions by school staff who protected students, potentially averting further tragedy. Westman had legally purchased the weapon and left behind writings and videos referencing mass shooters, along with plans detailing the church’s layout. Additionally, Westman’s mother had previously sought to change her child’s name from Robert to Robin, reflecting gender identity.
