As tensions escalate, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are expected to move to shelters in southern Gaza. International leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have condemned the Israeli plans, warning of potential regional catastrophe. The International Committee of the Red Cross highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis for Gaza’s 2.1 million residents, calling for immediate relief and a ceasefire.
During a recent briefing, an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman announced that operations are underway to target Hamas infrastructure, and that warnings would be issued to civilians to ensure their safety. However, reports of civilian casualties continue, with recent airstrikes resulting in multiple deaths in Gaza.
While mediators from Qatar and Egypt are proposing a 60-day truce along with plans for hostage releases, Israel remains firm on not accepting partial agreements. Tensions have been heightened since the onset of a major Israeli military campaign in response to a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which resulted in significant casualties and hostage situations.
