Adriana Metz has recently connected with her long-lost brother, who was separated from his family during Argentina’s military rule. The brother, identified through DNA testing, is the 140th child found by the Plaza de Mayo Grandmothers, an organization dedicated to locating children taken by the military regime.
Adriana’s parents, Graciela Alicia Romero and Raul Eugenio Metz, were political activists arrested in December 1976. Graciela gave birth while detained at a secret center, and both parents subsequently disappeared, presumed victims of the military junta’s brutal crackdown, which left approximately 30,000 people dead or missing.
Adriana had searched for her brother for decades, and her connection with him was facilitated by an anonymous tip that led to DNA testing coordinated with the National Identity Committee. At a press conference, she expressed her joy in finally reaching out to him, emphasizing the significance of their reunion even after so many years. Estella de Carlotto, the group’s founder, highlighted the ongoing importance of their efforts in recovering missing children.
