United Airlines’ rollout of Starlink Wi-Fi on its regional jets has encountered challenges due to radio interference. The airline installed Starlink on nearly 20 Embraer E175 jets, but all affected flights have temporarily lost internet connectivity due to interference between the Starlink antenna and the pilots’ VHF communication systems.
United confirmed that while this type of interference is not unusual with new technologies, it does not affect flight safety. The airline is collaborating with Starlink to resolve these issues. So far, about a third of the impacted jets have been repaired and are back online, with ongoing efforts to reconnect others during routine maintenance to avoid flight cancellations.
Despite these setbacks, United remains committed to equipping its entire fleet, including CRJ-550 jets, with Starlink, aiming for completion by the end of the year. This service will be free for travelers with a MileagePlus account.
